April 2008 General Meeting

Please join SEI-MD for our next general meeting on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at the Engineer’s Club in Baltimore. SEI-MD welcomes William Chan an assistant professor of Architecture at Morgan State University. His presentation will focus on architectural philosophies throughout history, and highlight how advancements in technology have influenced those philosophies. Architects often challenge engineers to think outside the box in order to achieve exciting new structures. But the ability to advance the limits of our capabilities is truly a partnership between the professions. Prof. Chan will present a number of examples focusing on his own unique experiences as a designer in several states, and as a member of Baltimore’s Design Review Panel.

Location & Time:  The Engineering Society of Baltimore (http://www.esb.org/) at 6:00pm

Fee:  $10.00 or Free with Student ID   RSVP by Monday, April 14, 2008 to md_sei@ascemdlists.org

February 2008 General Meeting

Please join SEI-MD for our next general meeting on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at the Engineer’s Club in Baltimore. SEI welcomes Dr. Jiwei Duan, P.E., PhD to speak about his research on testing of piles.  Along with some information on the design and installation of piles, he will compare several methods for static and dynamic load testing.  This topic should prove interesting to both structural and geotechnical engineers, as there are many benefits and challenges to pile testing versus application of a factor of safety.

Location & Time:  The Engineering Society of Baltimore (www.esb.org) at 6:00pm

Fee:  $10.00 or Free with Student ID

RSVP by Monday, February 18, 2008 to md_sei@ascemdlists.org
