Unified Design of Steel I-Section Flexural Members in the 2005 AISC and 2007 AASHTO Specifications
This technical seminar is brought to you as part of the AISC T.R. Higgins Award Lecture Series. The course leader is the 2009 T.R. Higgins Award winner, Donald White, Ph.D. We are honored to have this professor at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His research covers a broad area of design and behavior of steel and composite steel-concrete structures as well as computational mechanics, methods of nonlinear analysis and applications to design.
The 2005 AISC and 2007 AASHTO provisions for flexural design of steel I-section members have been revised in their entirety relative to previous specifications to simplify their logic, organization, and application, simultaneously improving their accuracy and generality. This seminar provides an overview of these comprehensive developments. The topics addressed include recommendations for consideration of member web slenderness, single-symmetry, horizontal curvature and variable depth in practical design.
